Cloud Computing

IT forms the heart and soul for smooth operations of businesses in today’s world, and Cloud Computing is the technology of the future in today’s advancement. Next Generation IT is available to be made use of, to streamline and advance growing global businesses. The businesses depend on IT to:

  • Support high-level specifications of IT service definitions, their Service Level Objectives (SLO) and business priorities;
  • Support automated provisioning, allocation and optimization of resource allocations based on these specifications to meet these SLO requirements; and
  • Reduce operational costs

Cloud Computing is the solution. Cloud computing is an emerging computing technology that uses the internet and central remote servers to maintain data and applications. Cloud computing allows consumers and businesses to use applications without installation and access their personal files at any computer with internet access. This technology allows for much more efficient computing by centralizing storage, memory, processing and bandwidth.

Cloud computing is Internet- ("cloud") based development and use of computer technology (“Computing"). The name cloud computing was inspired by the cloud symbol that's often used to represent the Internet in flow charts and diagrams. Cloud computing is a general term for anything that involves delivering hosted services over the Internet. It is a way to increase capacity or add capabilities on the fly without investing in new infrastructure, training new personnel, or licensing new software. Cloud computing encompasses any subscription-based or pay-per-use service that, in real time over the Internet, extends IT's existing capabilities.

Cloud computing is broken down into three segments: "applications," "platforms," and "infrastructure." Each segment serves a different purpose and offers different products for businesses and individuals around the world. Cloud Computing services are broadly divided into three categories: Infrastructure-as-a-Service (IaaS), Platform-as-a-Service (PaaS) and Software-as-a-Service (SaaS).
The key features of Cloud Computing are summarized below:

  • Agility: improves with users able to rapidly and inexpensively re-provision technological infrastructure resources..
  • Cost: is greatly reduced and capital expenditure is converted to operational expenditure. This ostensibly lowers entry barriers, as infrastructure is typically provided by a third-party and does not need to be purchased for one-time or infrequent intensive computing tasks.
  • Device agnostic and location independence: enable users to access systems using a web browser regardless of their location or what device they are using.
  • Multi-tenancy: enables sharing of resources and costs across a large pool of users thus allowing for:
    • Centralization of infrastructure in locations with lower costs
    • Peak-load capacity increases
    • Utilization and efficiency improvements for systems that are often only 10–20% utilized
  • Reliability (computer networking): improves through the use of multiple redundant sites, which makes cloud computing suitable for business continuity and disaster recovery.
  • Scalability: via dynamic ("on-demand") provisioning of resources on a fine-grained, self-service basis near real-time, without users having to engineer for peak loads.
  • Computer Security: typically improves due to centralization of data, increased security-focused resources, etc.
  • Sustainability: comes about through improved resource utilization, more efficient systems, and carbon neutrality.

ZIETA’s offering in Cloud Computing

ezSIEF, a ZIETA REACh Solution is a Cloud Computing Offering. ezSIEF utilizes Saas (Software-as-a-Service) as the baseline category for providing services. ezSIEF is a way for all chemical companies to have a control on a highly complex process of survey, collecting data, managing SIEF, tracking cost associated with SIEF management. ezSIEF also helps to streamline and  optimize the process.
